Objective

The National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO‑OP) aims to increase indigenous edible‑oil output by expanding oil‑palm plantation area in identified agro‑climatic clusters. The scheme seeks to curtail dependence on imported crude palm oil and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers.

Scope

Targeted clusters include regions with annual rainfall of 1500‑2500 mm, temperature range 24‑32 °C, and well‑drained loamy soils. The programme covers both new plantations and the rejuvenation of existing but under‑performing oil‑palm farms.

Implementation Agency

Implementation is coordinated by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) through State Agricultural Departments and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for financial assistance.

1. Obtain the list of approved agro‑climatic clusters from the district agriculture/horticulture office.
2. Prepare a plantation proposal including land‑ownership documents, soil‑test report, and crop‑management plan.
3. Submit the proposal online via the state oil‑palm portal or offline at the district office.
4. The department verifies eligibility and issues a sanction letter.
5. Disbursement of subsidy occurs in instalments linked to plantation milestones.
6. Periodic monitoring and reporting are conducted by the implementing agency.
