Overview

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Government of India to address the declining child sex ratio and to promote the education and empowerment of the girl child.

Implementation Mechanism

The scheme operates through district-level task forces headed by the District Collector, coordinating with departments of Women and Child Development, Education, Health, and Panchayati Raj. Activities include:

• Community mobilization and awareness campaigns
• Enrollment drives for girls in schools
• Construction of gender‑segregated toilets in schools
• Financial inclusion initiatives such as opening Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts
• Training of teachers and frontline workers on gender sensitivity

Monitoring is conducted via the Management Information System (MIS) and periodic reviews at state and national levels.

1. Identify the nearest government or government‑aided school where the girl child is enrolled or intends to enroll
2. Approach the school headmaster or the District Program Officer (Women and Child Development) to obtain the BBBP enrollment form
3. Submit the completed form along with the girl child’s Aadhaar copy, birth certificate, and school admission proof
4. Upon verification, the child is registered under the scheme and linked to a Sukanya Samriddhi Account if desired
5. Receive periodic updates on scheme benefits and participation in awareness camps
