Overview

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, administered by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), provides a one‑time capital subsidy for installing grid‑connected rooftop solar photovoltaic systems on residential buildings. The target is to equip one crore households with solar panels, thereby reducing dependence on conventional electricity and lowering household energy costs.

Financial Assistance

Eligible beneficiaries receive a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system (approximately 30 % of the benchmark cost). The subsidy is transferred directly to the vendor’s bank account after installation and verification.

Implementation

Applications are submitted online via the national rooftop solar portal. Required documents include a recent electricity bill, proof of roof ownership, and a photograph of the installation site. After technical feasibility verification, empaneled vendors undertake installation, commissioning, and subsidy claim processing.

1. Visit the official portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ and create an account using mobile number and OTP.
2. Fill the online application form with applicant details, property information, and upload required documents (latest electricity bill, roof ownership proof, roof photograph).
3. Submit the application; the system generates a unique application ID.
4. Await technical feasibility verification by the designated State Nodal Agency or empaneled vendor.
5. Upon approval, select an empaneled vendor for installation, sign the agreement, and schedule installation.
6. After installation and inspection, the vendor claims the subsidy; the subsidy amount is disbursed directly to the vendor’s bank account.
